Take 2…

This week will be my final dose of Avonex using the personal injector. I tried Avonex Pen for the first time last week, and it was absolutely amazing. (Update: Watch the Video!!)
I did my first injection manually using a 1.25″ needle about two years ago. After my initial injection training session, I was approved to use the personal injector with a 1″ needle. The personal injector requires the user to press a button and the needle is inserted into the skin. However, the patient must still push the plunger, which can still cause a bit of anxiety for some users.
The new Avonex Pen comes with a 0.75″ needle (the smallest one yet!). The “pen” not only performs the poke for the patient, but it also pushes the medication in (no pushing the plunger required!).
Avonex pen made the preparation faster. The insertion of the needle hurt a little bit less (but this part normally didn’t bother me). What surprised me is that the medication did not seem to sting as much with Avonex Pen compared to pushing the plunger manually with the personal injector. It doesn’t make much sense because the medication is exactly the same, but the experience was definitely more pleasant!
I will publish a video of Avonex Pen soon!
